Description of the job

A vacancy for a Flight Control Law designer (m/f) has arisen within Airbus at the Toulouse site in France. The successful applicant will join the Flight Control Systems department.

In the frame of the Engineering function, the Systems Centre of Competences and the Flight Control Domain, the job holder will contribute to the continuous development (design, integration and certification of modifications) of the Flight Control Laws for continuous development of one of the Airbus aircraft family.

The jobholder will join the Airbus Flight Control Laws team and will design modifications of flight control laws (Manual or Automatic pilot) to be integrated into the future standard of the Flight Control Systems computer.

The detailed scope of the job will initially concern one of the Airbus family (could be A350 or A330 NEO).
It will then vary along with the programme's needs, and also give to the job holder the possibility to develop on other programmes and technologies.
Developing a flight control Laws means to exchange with the customers of the change (flight test pilot, Programme chief engineer, Handling quality specialist,…), define a control loop of the system fulfilling the expressed needs, validate the adequacy of the solution on simulation tools, and then on full-scale simulators and in flight, and finally produce all the justification dossier needed for certification.

Profil recherché

Tasks & accountabilities

As the successful candidate your main activities will include:

·  Defining, developing, integrating and validating Flight control laws and then integrating them into A/C primary and secondary control systems to ensure good handling qualities and to match the safety & required performance level- according to Airbus systems engineering processes.
·  Designing the control laws themselves (Formal specification based on SAO 'Specification assistée par ordniateur' or SCADE)
·  Validating the control laws through simulation of the flight with models and simulation, and then with real hardware and finally in flight tests, and providing all data for the certification of these control laws.
·  Managing and defining interfaces with aircraft loads process and cockpit operations.

You will use SAO Specification tools (SCADE or similar), simulation tools (SIMPA, OCASIME, etc.) and assist the test centre for validation based on full scale simulator (A/C-1 and A/C0) and then on real time Aircraft in Flight.

A core competency in Automatic Control of Systems (Design, stability, performance, etc.). Typical tools are Matlab, Simulink, and some Airbus internal tools.
As the jobholder will act directly on simulation platforms, openness to piloting skills and understanding would be useful.
You will interface closely with the flight tests pilots and flight test engineers in order to meet their needs and the programme requirements.

Required skills

As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following skills and competencies:

·  Degree in Aernautical engineering (or equivalent)
·  Automatic control of system; Control feedback loop
·  Control simulation tools: Matlab, Simulink, etc.
·  Signal treatment (filtering, etc.)
·  Flight physic and dynamics. Aircraft control and stability
·  Aircraft flight control systems and equipment
·  Communication skills to convince, justify and influence
·  Some knowledge of project management would be a plus.
·  Curiosity
·  French (Intermediate level); English (Negotiation)
