Description de l'offre

Airbus Toulouse

Airbus Group is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. In 2014, the Group - comprising Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space and Airbus Helicopters - generated revenues of € 60.7 billion and employed a workforce of around 138,600.

Description of the job

Airbus (Toulouse) is looking for an intern for a 6-month internship.

Inside the Airbus Aerodynamic Domain, the group « Aero Data for Handling Qualities » is in charge of evaluating the aerodynamic characteristics of all the Airbus aircraft, of elaborating suitable modelling so that Aircraft behaviour can be simulated for:

· Flight control laws tuning
· Compliance to Safety & Certification requirements
· Training Flight Simulators…

The aerodynamic characterisation of the Aircraft is relying on the use of several means & tools such as Wind Tunnel Tests, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Semi Empirical Methods, Flight Tests results...

These tools are having various fields of use, different range of validity or specific application constraints. The use of these tools is then combined in the frame of the Aerodynamic Data elaboration process to overcome their limitations & provide an accurate view of Aircraft aerodynamic well before the first flight.

The Aerodynamic Data process is calibrated for application on conventional Aircraft configurations as represented within the Airbus family. But in the frame of future project studies some unusual aircraft configuration are under study with the objective to provide Airbus with a distinctive advantage over competition.

The mission of 'Aero Data for Handling Qualities' in that frame is still to provide a good overview of Aircraft aerodynamics but rather than fine tuning the configuration, the aim will be more focused on identification of sizing cases criterions. The final objective being to assess the viability of the configuration and to provide design drivers.

You will be responsible for developing Aero Data Processes suited to this Aircraft early design phase with particular focus on:

· Rapidity: fast answer requested for evaluation of numerous Aircraft concept,
· Flexibility and modularity: possibility to perform aerodynamic evaluation of exotic concept,
· Accuracy and consistency: data have to be representative enough for a proper evaluation of sizing case but accuracy can be challenged to ensure a rapid process.

This internship will start on 1st February 2016 (subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks will include:

· developing aerodynamic modules with geometrical parameterisation so that when combined together a wide variety of Aircraft configuration can be assessed. The input for your study will be the Aerodynamic Data Basis that Airbus has developed over years.

Some CFD studies (from lifting line to full Navier Stokes) are also likely to be performed to complement or adapt the Aero Data Basis to the purpose.

During that study, a particular emphasis will be placed on:

· the physical understanding of the aerodynamic phenomenon,
· a critical analysis of tools capabilities & limitations,
· a good capture of objectives aerodynamic data.
